Nursing of Children with ECMO after Heart Transplantation: A 5-case Study

Abstract: Objective To summarize the nursing key points in 5 children with ECMO after heart transplantation. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the treatment of 5 children with ECMO after heart transplantation, particularly the nursing problems and its corresponding measures. Results With the withdrawal of ECMO and ventilator, all the children were transferred out of ICU. Conclusion The fixation of ECMO cannulae and nursing, application of vasoactive drug, management of respiration system, prevention of hypoxemia, and treatment of complications such as bleeding and complications in children with ECMO after heart transplantation are critical for enhancing the recovery of children.
