Complications of Affected Extremities of 80 Breast Cancer Patients One Year after Operation and Its Treatment: A Longitudinal Study

Abstract: Objective To investigate the complications of affected extremities and its change rules in breast cancer patients one year after the surgery.Methods Eighty patients after breast cancer surgery were involved in the study and the occurrence of complications of affected extremities 3, 6, and 12 months after the surgery was described statistically. Results The incidence of lymphedema increased in the year after the surgery, while that of the complications such as pain, sensory disturbance, decreased muscle strength and cord structure decreased. The incidence difference 3, 6, and 12 months after the surgery indicated statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion Overall rehabilitation effect of patients after breast cancer surgery is not very ideal. Except the incidence of lymphedema, even though that of other complications decreased, lymphedema, the only complication the incidence of which was increasingly severe with the prolonging of the time, is still not improved one year after the surgery. It is suggested that more measures should be taken for function management and complication management of affected extremities for more than 1 year.
