Reliability and Validity of the Chinese Version of Family Resilience Assessment in Breast Cancer Patients

Abstract: Objective To translate the Family Resilience Assessment (FRA) into Chinese, and to validate its reliability and validity in Chinese breast cancer patients. Methods FRA was translated based on the Brislin translation model and cross-cultural adaptation and pre-investigation were performed successively. A sample size of 320 breast cancer patients were selected for investigation to evaluate the reliability and validity of the translated FRA (C-FRA). Results The C-FRA consisted of 28 items, and 5 factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis, which contributed to 70.862% of the variance. The total Cronbach coefficient of the scale was 0.961, and the test-retest reliability 0.884. The content validity of the C-FRA was 0.967, while the content validity of the item level was 0.867~1.000, and its criterion validity 0.605 (P<0.01). Conclusion The C-FRA is proved to be a good instrument with acceptable reliability and validity, and it is qualified to assess family resilience among Chinese breast cancer patients.
