Best Evidence Summary for Evaluation and Intervention of Postoperative Shivering in Patients in Post Anesthesia Care Unit

Abstract: Objective To retrieve, evaluate and integrate the best evidence of evaluation and intervention of postoperative shivering in patients in post anesthesia care unit. Methods We searched the Guidelines International Network, National Guideline Clearing-house, Registered Nurses'Association of Ontario, British Medical Journal, Joanna Briggs Library, GeenMedical, Up To Date, Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network, American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses, Cochrane Library, The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses, Medline, Wanfang Data, Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Guide, VIP, CNKI and Chinese Society of Anesthesiology, to gather evidence for postoperative shivering assessment and intervention. Literature quality assessment was completed on the basis of evidence collection, processing and integration conducted by more than 2 reviewers. Results Ten articles were analyzed, including 2 guidelines, 2 expert consensus, 1 evidence summary, 4 systematic reviews and 1 randomized controlled trial, from which 16 pieces of best evidence were summarized into 4 categories including risk factors, assessment timing and assessment tools, interventions and quality control. Conclusion Accurate identifying, timely and accurate evaluation of the risk factors of shivering, appropriate intervention measures, and application of the best evidence in clinical practice according to the actual situation of the hospital are conducive to improving patient comfort and reducing the occurrence of shivering and its related complications.
