Abstract: Objective To analyze the dynamic change of medication compliance of newly-diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its longitudinal predictors. Methods Totally 100 newly-diagnosed T2DM patients were surveyed by using Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS), the Beliefs About Medicine Questionnaire (BMQ), the Family APGAR (adaptation, partnership, growth, affection, resolve) index and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale(MMAS). Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influence of diabetes distress, medication belief, and family care on medication compliance in the very day after the diagnosis, 1 month, 3 and 6 months after the diagnosis. Results The score of medication compliance 1 month, 3 and 6 months after the diagnosis was 6.5±1.9, 5.6±1.7 and 4.9±1.3 respectively, which was decreased dynamically (P<0.05). Multiple linear regression showed that diabetes distress was a negative predictor (P<0.05) but medication belief and family care were positive predictors (P<0.05) for medication compliance 1 month,3 and 6 months after the diagnosis. Conclusion Overall,T2DM patients demonstrate a dynamic decrease in terms of medication compliance in the first half year after the diagnosis and diabetes distress, medication belief, and family care are predictors for medication compliance in T2DM patients.
