Construction of nursing knowledge base for PICC-related thrombosis prevention based on clinical nursing classification system

Abstract: Objective To construct a PICC-related thrombosis preventive nursing knowledge base by using evidence-based methodology by using a PICC-related thrombosis prediction model, and to provide a decision-making basis for the predictive risk management of PICC-related thrombosis. Methods Based on the best evidence summary on PICC thromboprophylaxis in adult patients with malignant tumors published in 2020, we searched all the evidence on PICC-related thromboprophylaxis in domestic and foreign databases and professional association websites such as BMJ, JBI, RNAO, INS, and CNKI from November 1, 2019 to April 1, 2023. All newly identified literature underwent quality appraisal and evidence extraction. The draft knowledge base was synthesized by integrating the best available evidence from the previous summary with evidence extracted from the newly appraised literature. The final base was determined through the expert meeting. The content of the knowledge base was encoded according to clinical nursing classification system. Results Using the PICC-related thrombosis prediction model as an evaluation tool, the final version of the knowledge base included 1 nursing diagnosis, 18 specific nursing measures and 4 nursing outcomes. Conclusion The PICC-related thromboprophylaxis nursing knowledge base exhibits characteristics of professionalism, scientific rigor and clinical applicability, and provides scientific decision-making for clinical nurses.
