Abstract: Objective To survey the benefit finding among patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and analyze its influencing factors. Methods The convenient sampling method was used to select 246 patients with IBD in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from October 2020 to July 2021. General information questionnaire, Benefit Finding Scale, Stigma Scale for Chronic Illness, Berkeley Expressivity Questionnaire, and Cohesion and Adaptability Scale were used to conduct the investigation. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the factors influencing the benefit finding of patients with IBD. Results The score of benefit finding in patients with IBD was 60.83±18.28. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that disease activity, stigma, self-disclosure, and family function were the influence factors of benefit finding among patients with IBD (P≤0.001), which explained 50.6% of the total variation. Conclusion The benefit finding among patients with IBD was at a low-medium level. To enhance benefit finding, medical staff should pay close attention to the assessment in this population, especially in patients in the active phase of the disease, encourage patients with a sense of stigma to express their disease-related feelings and improve their family relationship and adaptability.

Key words: inflammatory bowel diseases, benefit finding, stigma, self-disclosure, family function
