Abstract: Objective To investigate the current status of self-efficacy for symptom management in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and analyze its influence factors. Methods With convenient sampling method, 154 breast cancer patients from one tertiary grade A hospital were investigated from September 2017 to December 2018 by using a general information questionnaire, Self-efficacy for Symptom Management Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and Quality of Life Questionnaire of Breast Cancer Patients. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted for analyzing the influence factors. Results The total score of self-efficacy for symptom management scale was 165.18±51.09. Multiple regression analysis showed that education background, medical payment method, duration of chemotherapy and quality of life were main influence factors of self-efficacy for symptom management in breast cancer patients (P<0.01), which accounted for 64.7% of the total variations. Conclusion Self-efficacy for symptom management in breast cancer patients is at a medium level. More attention should go to breast cancer patients with lower education level, those with rural cooperative medical insurance, those with more chemotherapy cycles and those with lower score of quality of life. Health education on chemotherapy-related adverse reactions and skill guidance for dealing with chemotherapy-related adverse reactions and targeted care measures are beneficial to alleviating the symptoms of chemotherapy, and ultimately improving the level of self-efficacy for symptom management.
