Motivators and obstacles of ideological and political teaching in clinical nurses: a qualitative research

Abstract: Objective To understand the motivators and obstacles of clinical nurses in the implementation of ideological and political teaching, so as to provide reference for further promoting ideological and political teaching. Methods Phenomenological research method in qualitative research was used to conduct semi-structured in-depth interviews in 10 clinical nurses. The interview data were transcribed, coded, classified, and analyzed. Results Two motivators were extracted including realizing the importance of ideological and political teaching, and supporting the participation of clinical nurses in the teaching. Obstacles included improper human resource allocation, lack of atmosphere, lack of training system, and inadequate attention from nursing students. Conclusion Both motivators and obstacles are observed in the implementation of ideological and political teaching and clinical nurses and nursing students should pay enough attention to ideological and political teaching. Optimized allocation of human resources, a unified and planned training program and good atmosphere of training and learning are conducive to the promotion of ideological and political teaching.
