Abstract: Objective To translate Children’s Environmental Health Knowledge Questionnaire (ChEHK-Q) and Children’s Environmental Health Skills Questionnaire (ChEHS-Q) for nursing students in China, and to psychometrically validate them based on item response theory. Methods ChEHK-Q and ChEHS-Q were translated and culturally adapted. A total of 316 nursing undergraduates from a university in Henan province were conveniently selected and surveyed by using the two questionnaires. The Rasch model and rating scale model based on item response theory were used to evaluate the questionnaire. Results Principal component analysis of residuals and confirmatory factor analysis showed that the two questionnaire satisfied unidimensionality assumption and local Independence assumption. The item reliability of the knowledge questionnaire was 0.970, and the individual reliability was 0.810. The item reliability of the skill questionnaire was 0.930, and the individual reliability was 0.910. The retest reliability of the knowledge questionnaire was 0.917, and the skill questionnaire was 0.952. CVI of ChEHK-Q was 0.960, and that of ChEHS-Q was 1.000. The difficulty of the two questionnaires is reasonable, and the data and model fit well. Conclusion ChEHK-Q and ChEHS-Q are reliable and valid instrument with satisfactory psychometric properties for nursing students in China. It helps to distinguish different level of knowledge or skills of children’s environmental health in nursing students.
