Chinese Localization of Metacognitive Ability Scale for nursing students and its reliability and validity

Abstract: Objective To localize the Metacognitive Ability Scale for Nursing Students so as to meet the development needs of nursing education, to test its reliability and validity, and to provide an effective tool for measuring the metacognitive ability of nursing students. Methods Based on Brislin model for translation, the Chinese version of the scale was formed through translation, back translation, cultural adaptation and pre-experimentation. Convenient sampling was used to select 424 nursing undergraduates throughout the country for the survey, and the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the scale were analyzed. Results Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.956 and retest reliability coefficient 0.829; Cronbach's α coefficient for each dimension ranged from 0.746 to 0.875 and retest reliability coefficient for each dimension from 0.615 to 0.860. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that χ2/df=2.881, RMSEA=0.067, RMR=0.045, IFI=0.906, TLI=0.895, CFI=0.905, CR value 0.7562~0.8767, AVE value 0.4802~0.5431. Conclusion The Chinese version of Metacognitive Ability Scale for Nursing Students can be evaluated from five dimensions of self-monitoring, self-adjusting, self-awareness, effective learning, and problem solving. The scale has good reliability and validity, and can be used to measure the level of nursing students' metacognitive ability.
