Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of child medical assistance services on self-management ability of school-age asthmatic children. Methods Fifty patients in the outpatient department of asthma in our hospital from March to May 2018 were included as control group and another fifty patients from June to August 2018 as observation group. Routine care was performed in the control group and child medical assistance services were provided in the observation group. Self-management ability, asthma recurrence rate and visit rate of acute asthma attack in the two groups were compared before the and at the end of 6 months intervention. Results There was higher score of self-management ability in the observation group at the end of 6 months of intervention (P<0.05) but lower rate of asthma recurrence (χ2=4.320, P=0.038) than the control group. There was no statistically significant difference in the rate of acute asthma attack visit between the 2 groups (χ2=1.895, P=0.169). Conclusion Child medical assistance services are effective for improving the self-management ability and reducing the recurrence rate of school-age children with asthma.
