Quality Appraisal and Content Analysis of Clinical Practice Guidelines Related to Tracheotomy Care of Adult Patients

Abstract: Objective To conduct quality assessment and content analysis of clinical practice guidelines related to tracheotomy care of adult patients, and to provide references for evidence-based tracheotomy nursing and develop clinical practice guidelines for Chinese patients. Methods Systematic research of guidelines for tracheotomy care for adult patients from international guideline websites, websites of academic societies or institutions,and electronic databases was conducted. The quality of the literatures were evaluated according to AGREE II and JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Text and Opinion Papers in Australia. Results A total of 13 clinical practice guidelines were included, 6 of which were evidence-based while the other 7 were expert consensus. The 6 evidence-based guidelines were rated according to AGREE II as B and all 7 expert consensus guidelines were rated as included.Sixteen items pertaining to tracheotomy nursing were finally identified. Conclusion The existing clinical practice guidelines can be used in clinical practice, but can't provide enough scientific reference for tracheotomy nursing, and there is inadequate high-quality original research. The original research on tracheotomy nursing should be carried out according to the actual situation of our country.
