Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) therapy on improving self-efficacy and mindfulness level of lung cancer patients during chemotherapy and its significance. Methods One hundred patients with lung cancer receiving chemotherapy for the first time in a tertiary grade A hospital were randomly divided into intervention group (n=50) and control group (n=50). Both groups received routine nursing intervention. The intervention group additionally received 8-week MBSR therapy. The self-efficacy and mindfulness level of the 2 groups were evaluated before and after the intervention (6 and 12 weeks). Results The difference was statistically significant in the scores of self-efficacy and mindfulness level of the 2 groups (P<0.001). In the self-efficacy, there were differences in the inter-group effect between the self-based stress reduction and positive attitude dimensions of the two groups (P<0.05). The differences in self-efficacy, self-based stress reduction dimension, positive attitude dimension and mindfulness level between the two groups were statistically significant in the time-group effect (P<0.05). There were interaction effects in the intervention and time of self-efficacy level, positive attitude dimension and mindfulness level score of the two groups (P<0.001). Conclusion MBSR therapy can effectively improve the level of self-efficacy and mindfulness of lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
