Development of Quality Indicator Evaluation System for Specialist Nursing of Intravenous Therapy

Abstract: Objective To construct a scientific, systematic and practical quality indicator evaluation system in specialist nursing of intravenous therapy. Methods Based on structure-process-outcome theory and detailed analysis of related item of intravenous therapy involved in Operation Specification for Nursing of Intravenous Therapy, the nursing quality indicator evaluation system was developed and indicators' weight value was determined with literature review, expert group discussion, Delphi method and percentage weighting method. Results In the two-round survey,the effective response rates were 90.9% and 100% respectively; Cr coefficients 0.864 and 0.940 respectively and W coefficients 0.310 and 0.254 respectively (P<0.01). The system consisted of 3 first-level, 10 second-level, and 48 third-level indicators. Conclusion The reliability and authority of the indicator system are acceptable; it can be used to provide objective and quantitative reference for the evaluation of nursing quality of intravenous therapy.
