Translation of Parenting Resilience Elements Questionnaire and its validation

Abstract: Objective To introduce the English version of the Parenting Resilience Elements Questionnaire and test the reliability and validity in a Chinese context. Methods Through translation, back-translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and pilot testing, a Chinese version of the Parenting Resilience Elements Questionnaire was developed. Convenience sampling was used to select 408 parents of children with developmental disorders to assess the reliability and validity of the Chinese version. Results The Chinese version of the Parenting Resilience Elements Questionnaire consisted of 2 dimensions and 11 items, with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 50.179%. The internal consistency Cronbach’s α coefficient of the scale was 0.807, and the Cronbach’s α coefficients for the 2 dimensions were 0.720 and 0.810, respectively. The overall odd-even split-half reliability of the scale was 0.838, and the scale’s content validity index for all items 0.875, with item-level content validity ranging from 0.889 to 1.000. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated a good model fit. Conclusion The translated version of the Parenting Resilience Elements Questionnaire demonstrates good reliability and validity, making it suitable for assessing the resilience of parents of children with developmental disorders in China.
