Abstract: Objective To analyze the mediating effect of sub-health on occupational adaptation and retention intention in new nurses. Methods A total of 341 new nurses from 4 tertiary grade A hospitals in Qingdao were selected as the objects from January to February 2020, and Occupational Adaptability Scale, Sub-health Rating Scale and Nurse Retention Intention Scale were used to conduct a survey. SPSS 25.0 was used to analyze the correlation among occupational adaptation ability, sub-health and retention intention of new nurses, and AMOS 22.0 to analyze the mediating effect of sub-health between occupational adaptation ability and retention intention. Results The total score of new nurse’s sub-health,occupational adaptability and retention intention was 72.79±14.07,103.72±13.76 and 23.89±3.65 respectively. The retention intention was positively correlated with occupational adaptation and sub-health(P<0.05). Sub-health of new nurses had a partial mediating effect between occupational adaptation and retention intention (β=0.383,P<0.05). Conclusion Occupational adaptability, sub-health and retention intention of the new nurses in this group are all above the medium level. Occupational adaptability of new nurses can indirectly affect their retention intention through sub-health. Active measures should be implemented to improve occupational adaptability and the health of new nurses, thus to enhance their retention intention.
