Abstract: Objective To explore the mediating effect of loneliness between short video addiction and sleep quality among nursing undergraduates. Methods Through convenience sampling, 311 nursing undergraduates were selected and surveyed by Loneliness Scale, Short Video Addiction Scale and Self-rating Scale of Sleep. Process macro program in SPSS was used to analyze the mediating effect of loneliness between short video addiction and sleep quality among nursing undergraduates. Results The total score of loneliness, short video addiction and sleep quality among nursing undergraduates was 45.23±8.88, 51.58±5.79 and 22.93±6.31 respectively. Loneliness and short video addiction were positively correlated with sleep quality (r=0.286, r=0.177, P<0.001). Loneliness played a partially mediating role between short video addiction and sleep quality, with mediating effect value of 0.057, accounting for 31.8% of the total effect. Conclusion Nursing undergraduates have poor sleep quality, which requires great attention. Loneliness plays a mediating role between short video addiction and sleep quality. It is suggested that measures should be taken to prevent short video addiction and reduce loneliness, so as to promote physical and mental health of nursing undergraduates, and improve their sleep quality and learning.

Key words: nursing undergraduate, loneliness, short video addiction, sleep quality, mediating effect
