Evaluation and Residual Value Utilization of Scrapped Surgical Instruments

Abstract: Objective To realize the fine management and cost control of scrapped surgical instruments by establishing an assessment system of scrapped surgical instruments and exploring the residual value utilization of scrapped surgical instruments. Methods By combining industry standards and clinical practice, scrapping assessment was conducted from the 9 detailed indicators of 3 aspects of surgical instrument safety, usability and cost and the assessment was carried out by weight calculation. The residual value utilization of scrapped surgical instruments was explored from the two aspects of maintenance and teaching. Results The scrap rate of 223 pieces of surgical instruments from April 2018 to December 2020 was 21.1%,and the hospital saved about 700,000 yuan. Conclusion A qualitative and quantitative assessment of scrapped surgical instruments makes up for the deficiency of the present method, effectively reduce the operation risk caused by using discarded surgical instruments. The purchase and maintenance?cost of surgical instruments are saved through residual value utilization.
