Meta-analysis of Effects of Parent Present Anesthesia Induction on Children with General Anesthesia

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effect of parent present anesthesia induction on children with general anesthesia. Methods We searched Cochrane library, PubMed, EMbase, Sciencedirect, SpringerLink, CBM, CNKI ,Wanfang and VIP data to collect literatures and the references of related reviews from the inception to June 2018. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on effects of general anesthesia with or without parent presence on children undergoing general anesthesia were analyzed by using RevMan 5.3 software. Results Sixteen Chinese and English literatures were included, and the sample size included in the studies was 1,430. Meta-analysis showed that the induction of anesthesia with the presence of family members could reduce preoperative anxiety of parents [SMD=-0.37, 95%CI(-0.55, -0.19), P<0.01], and the incidence of agitation in children during induction and recovery [RR=0.67, 95%CI(0.53, 0.88), P<0.05], and relieve the pain of children during recovery [SMD=-0.38, 95%CI(-0.66,-0.09), P<0.05]. Conclusion Available evidence indicates that parent presence anesthesia has a positive effect on children and it is recommended that the hospital promote parent present anesthesia in light of actual situation.
