Current status of demand balance in 207 family caregivers of senile dementia patients and its influencing factors

Abstract: Objective To explore the current situation of demand balance of family caregivers of senile dementia patients in Zhengzhou city, and analyze its influencing factors. Methods A total of 207 family caregivers of senile dementia patients in Zhengzhou were selected by convenient sampling. General Information Questionnaire, Finding a Balance Scale, Family Care-giving Competence Scale for the Elderly were used to investigate the family caregivers, and multiple linear regression was used to analyze the factors affecting the degree of family caregivers’ demand balance. Results The total score of demand balance of family caregivers of senile dementia patients was 1.38(1.00,1.81). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that marital status, caring time, relationship with the patients and family care ability of caregivers were the influencing factors (P<0.05), accounting for 24.1% of the total variation. Conclusion The degree of demand balance of family caregivers of senile dementia patients is at a relatively low level on the whole. Marital status, caring time, relationship with patients and family care ability of caregivers can affect the degree of demand balance of family caregivers of senile dementia patients.
