Abstract: Objective To explore the prevalence and influencing factors of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in 1 064 elderly people in rural Shanxi. Methods From January to June 2021, 1 064 elderly people aged 60 and above were selected in rural areas of Shanxi Province as research subjects, and the General information questionnaire and Minimum Mental State Examination (MMSE) were used for the investigation, and binary logistic regression to determine the influencing factors of mild cognitive impairment. Results The prevalence of MCI in 1 064 rural elderly people in Shanxi Province was 17.6%. Univariate analysis showed that age, occupation, working after retirement, education background, living with spouses or not, marital status, monthly income, social activities, reading books and newspapers, physical exercise, health self-assessment, sleep status, hearing, vision, hypertension, and diabetes were influencing factors of the prevalence of MCI in the elderly (P<0.05). Binary logistic regression showed reading books and newspapers, participating in social activities, and living with spouses were protective factors for MCI. Low education level, advanced age, poor hearing, and diabetes were risk factors for MCI in elderly people. Conclusion There is moderate incidence of MCI in 1 064 rural elderly people in Shanxi Province. The elderly with advanced age, diabetes mellitus, low education level and poor hearing are the high-risk groups for MCI, so It is recommended that cognitive function screening be promptly conducted and appropriate interventions be implemented to enhance cognitive function of the elderly.
