Abstract: Objective To analyze the current status of self-compassion in patients with colorectal cancer stoma and to explore its influencing factors. Methods Convenience sampling was used to select 228 patients with colorectal cancer stoma from a tertiary grade-A specialized hospital in Hunan Province from November 2022 to May 2023. General Demographic Information Questionnaire, Self-compassion Assessment Scale, and Social Support Scale were used to conduct the survey among the patients. The factors influencing self-compassion in patients with colorectal cancer stoma were analyzed by multiple linear stepwise regression. Results The score of self-compassion of patients with colorectal cancer stoma was 81.41±14.37, and that of social support 46.44±8.36. Self-compassion of patients with colorectal cancer ostomy was correlated with social support (r=0.645, P<0.01). Multivariate linear stepwise regression analysis showed that family’s monthly income, the status of the stoma, monthly cost of stoma product, stoma complication and social support entered the stepwise regression equation (P<0.05), explaining 47.8% of the total variation. Conclusion The level of self-compassion of patients with colorectal cancer stoma in this study is low, and monthly family income, ostomy status, monthly cost of ostomy products, ostomy complications, and social support are the main influencing factors.

Key words: colorectal cancer, enterostomy, self-compassion, positive psychology
