Abstract: Objective To systematically evaluate and integrate the real experience of nurses' compassion fatigue. Methods We searched PubMed, Web of Science, EMBase, EBSCO, CINAHL, The Cochrane Library, Scopus, CNKI, WANFANG and VIP DATA for qualitative research on real experience of compassion fatigue of nurses from the inception of the database to March 2020. The literature was evaluated and then results were integrated. Results Seven qualitative studies were included involving 41 results and 8 categories, then 4 integrated themes were extracted: the internal factors of compassion fatigue, the external factors of compassion fatigue, self-regulation, and expectation of external support. Conclusion Nursing managers should pay attention to the experience and needs of nurses' compassion fatigue. Adequate support and guidance are conductive to establishing a positive coping style, preventing or improving compassion fatigue, thus to promote nurses' physical and mental health.
