Effect of Transfer Scheme Based on Modified Early Warning Score for In-hospital Transportation of Critically-ill Patients:A Meta-analysis

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effect of transfer scheme based on the modified early warning score(MEWS) in the transportation of critically ill patients in hospital. Methods Computer and manual search of CNKI, CBM, Wanfang Database, VIP, PubMed, EMBASE, Ovid, EBSCO and Cochrane libraries for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi experimental studies on the application effect of transfer scheme based on MEWS in in-hospital transfer of critically ill patients were conducted. The retrieval time was fromJuly 2001 to August 2020. Three researchers strictly screened the literature, extracted and evaluated the quality of the data. RevMan 5.3 software was used to conduct Meta-analysis. Results There were 19 articles, including 6 RCTs and 13 quasi experimental studies. Meta-analysis showed that MEWS-based transfer scheme could reduce the incidence of adverse events [OR=0.27, 95%CI(0.24, 0.30),P<0.01], improve the satisfaction of patients and their families [OR=3.91, 95%CI(2.79, 5.49), P<0.01], and the satisfaction of related departments [OR=4.72, 95%CI(2.87, 7.77), P<0.01], and shorten the transfer time [MD=-2.47, 95%CI (-2.68, -2.25), Z=22.26,P<0.01]. The differences were statistically significant. Conclusion For critically ill patients transferred in hospital, MEWS-based transfer scheme can effectively reduce the incidence of adverse events, improve the satisfaction of patients and their families, the satisfaction of related departments, and shorten the transfer time.
