Qualitative Research on Home Life Experience of Patients after Temporary Stoma Reversal

Abstract: Objective To explore home life experience of patients receiving temporary colostomy reversal, and to provide reference for the intervention to promote patients' home-based rehabilitation. Methods Phenomenological research method in qualitative research was adopted to carry out semi-structured interview with 12 patients receiving colostomy reversal. The obtained data were coded, analyzed, sorted and summarized according to Colaizzi's seven-step analysis method. Results Three themes were extracted including the uncertainty of disease development, life disturbance brought by intestinal symptoms, emotional adjustment related to diseases. Conclusion Intestinal function changes after receiving colostomy reversal brings great trouble to patients physically and psychologically. Medical staff should offer patient timely nursing intervention according to their cognition and needs to improve their life quality.
