Construction of Competency Evaluation Scale for Clinical Nursing Teacher and Its Reliability and Validity

Abstract: Objective To construct a competency evaluation scale for clinical nursing teacher, so as to provide criteria for the assessment and evaluation of clinical nursing teachers’ competency. Methods Based on the competency model, after literature review, the critical event method and Delphi method were used to construct the competency evaluation scale for clinical nursing teacher. Factor analysis, reliability and validity of the scale were measured by surveying 186 clinical nursing teachers. Results The competence evaluation scale for clinical nursing teacher consisted of 5 first-level and 44 second-level indicators. Five factors were extracted after exploratory factor analysis and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 60.856%. Split-half reliability of the scale was 0.982 and the re-test reliability 0.852. The Cronbach’s α coefficient for the total scale was 0.962; the total CVI 0.992, and CVI for each item ranged from 0.95 to 1.00. Conclusion With high reliability and validity, the developed scale can truly reflect the competence of clinical nursing teachers.
