Qualitative Research on Short-term International Training Experience of Nursing Professionals

Abstract: Objective To understand the perception and experience of short-term international training in Singapore among nursing professionals, and to provide reference for future overseas nursing training. Methods A focus group interview was conducted in 12 nursing professionals attending “Chongqing-Singapore Nursing Specialty Short-term Training” program. The data were collated, analyzed and summarized by using the 7-step analysis method of the phenomenological data of Claizzi. Results Two aspects and six themes were extracted for the international training of nursing professionals. The aspect about the necessity of international training covered 3 themes including great enthusiasm in training abroad, updated concepts and enriched training methods and the aspect of international training design referred that the depth of training content needs to be expanded; the matching of training methods is questionable and the achievements of the training have yet to be discovered and nurtured. Conclusion International training is an indispensible means to cultivate nursing professionals with an international perspective, and an international training system based on the characteristics of the nursing profession should be developed.
