Translation of Difficulties in Daily Life of Patients with Osteoarthritis of the Knee Scale and its reliability and validity

Abstract: Objective To translate Difficulties in the Daily Life of Patients with Osteoarthritis of the Knee Scale (DDLKOS) into Chinese and to test its reliability and validity. Methods The scale was translated, back-translated, and cross-culturally adapted according to Brislin translation model. A total of 450 patients with knee osteoarthritis in a tertiary grade-A hospital in Chengdu were selected using convenience sampling from April to December 2022 to analyze the reliability and validity of the scale, and the item analysis and reliability and validity test were completed by using SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 24.0. Results The Chinese version of DDLKOS consisted of 14 items in 3 dimensions. Content validity index at the item level was 0.818~1.000, and that at the scale level 0.909. Exploratory factor analysis extracted 3 common factors with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 60.019%. Validation factor analysis showed that model fitting was good and had good structural validity. Cronbach a coefficient of the scale was 0.891, with a half Cronbach α of 0.861 and a 2-week retest reliability of 0.764. Cronbach α coefficient of each dimension ranged from 0.779 to 0.818. Conclusion The Chinese version of DDLKOS has good reliability and validity, and can be used for the assessment of difficulties in the daily life of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee in China.
