Abstract: Objective To establish a nosocomial information platform of venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk assessment and management system and explore its application effect in clinical practice. Methods A VTE risk assessment and management system based on information platform was constructed, and VTE risk assessment was conducted for hospitalized patients. The comparison of VTE assessment time, the proportion of VTE department assessment rate, VTE case reporting rate and VTE-related knowledge of nurses before and after the application of the platform were conducted. Results After the application of VTE risk assessment and management system, the time for VTE risk assessment, data collection and processing was significantly reduced, and the difference was statistically significant (t=35.340, 5.385, 14.706, P<0.05). There were more departments with high rate of VTE risk assessment (Z=3.760, P<0.001) and the difference of reporting rate of VTE cases before and after the application indicated statistical significance (χ2=133.669, P<0.05). The difference in scores of five dimensions of VTE-related knowledge, including basic concept, risk factors, preventive measures, clinical manifestations and VTE nursing measures was statistically significant (t=6.060, 5.347, 6.121, 11.590, 4.300, P<0.05). Conclusion The application of VTE risk assessment and management system is conducive to the control of high-risk risk factors for VTE, which can effectively improve the management of VTE, reduce the occurrence of VTE in hospitalized patients and ensure the safety of patients.
