Status Quo of Medical Narrative Competence of New Nurses and Its Influencing Factors: A 422-case Study

Abstract

Objective To understand the current situation of the medical narrative ability of new nurses and analyze its influencing factors. Methods With convenience sampling method, 422 newly recruited nurses from a tertiary grade-A hospital in Nanchang from December 2021 to January 2022 were selected and surveyed by using general information questionnaire, Medical Narrative Ability Scale, Family Care Scale and Nurse Workplace Adaptation Scale. Results The total score of new nurses' medical narrative ability in this group was 139.06±20.79. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that family care, nurses' fitness in workplace and viewpoint on narrative nursing development entered the regression equation (P<0.01), which explained 43.5% of the total variation. Conclusion The medical narrative ability of newly recruited nurses in this group is at an upper-middle level, and the main influencing factors of narrative ability are family care, nurses' fitness in workplace and viewpoint on narrative nursing development. Targeted training is beneficial to improving medical narrative ability of new nurses and their professional growth.
