Abstract

Objective To understand the barriers to implementing intuitive eating in patients with type 2 diabetes from the perspective of healthcare professionals, and to provide reference for clinical intervention in this population. Methods A descriptive study method and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 medical staff from endocrinology department in a tertiary grade-A hospital in Anhui province. The data were analyzed and extracted by Colaizzi seven-step analysis. Results Three themes and 7 sub-themes were extracted including individual level (cognitive rigidity, insufficient knowledge on intuitive eating, and lack of self-confidence); environmental level (contextual constraints, poor organizational atmosphere), and resource level (immature application system of intuitive eating and limited practical experience). Conclusion There are multiple barriers to implementing intuitive eating in patients with type 2 diabetes. Clinicians should promote cognitive shifts and participation motivation in patients by integrating evidence-based medicine with digital health technologies and multidimensional education strategies. Multidisciplinary collaboration, standardized system and work processes are conducive to providing references for subsequent high-quality clinical interventions.
