Mediating effect of exercise self-efficacy between kinesiophobia and amount of physical activity in patients with acute type A aortic dissection

Mediating effect of exercise self-efficacy between kinesiophobia and amount of physical activity in patients with acute type A aortic dissection

Abstract

Objective To explore the mediating role of exercise self-efficacy between kinesiophobia and amount of physical activity. Methods Using conveniently sampling, 310 patients with acute type A aortic dissection from one tertiary grade-A hospital in Beijing from June 2023 to December 2024 were selected and investigated with General Information Questionnaire, The Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart, Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale and Physical Activity Rank Scale. The mediation model was constructed and tested. Results The total scores of Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale, The Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart and Physical Activity Rank Scale were 58.35±14.51, 41.73±9.44, and 19.34±8.57, respectively. The total score of exercise self-efficacy was negatively correlated with kinesiophobia (r=-0.984, P<0.01). The total score of amount of physical activity was negatively correlated with kinesiophobia (r=-0.894,P<0.01), while positively with exercise self-efficacy (r=0.920, P<0.01). Exercise self-efficacy played a partially mediating role between kinesiophobia and physical activity, with a mediating effect of -0.236 (95% CI: -0.328 to -0.193), accounting for 48.8% of the total effect. Conclusion Exercise self-efficacy is partial mediator between kinesiophobia and amount of physical activity. Healthcare providers should implement targeted interventions to reduce patients' kinesiophobia while enhancing exercise self-efficacy, thereby promoting sustainable physical activity engagement.
