Abstract

Objective To integrate the best evidence for developmental supportive care of premature infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), and to offer an evidence-based assessment and management of developmental supportive care for preterm infants for clinical medical staff. Methods We retrieved literature including guidelines, expert consensuses, evidence summaries, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses pertaining to developmental support care for preterm infants in both English and Chinese databases as well as guideline websites from January 2013 to October 2023. Results Twenty-nine articles were collected, including seven guidelines, three expert consensus statements, three evidence summaries, and sixteen systematic reviews. Thirty-six pieces of evidence were summarized from seven aspects. Conclusion This study summarizes the best evidence for developmental support care for premature infants, delivering a robust evidence base for medical staff. In clinical practice, specific clinical scenarios should be incorporated in order to standardize the management of developmental support care for preterm infants.
